Interesting quote

All art is quite useless” Oscar Wilde

I have always loved this quote, puts everything in prespective for me I guess.  And how I love to create the “useless”!  I find freedom in his definition of art,  and permission to create art just for the fun of it   Without the pragmatic boundaries of “usefulness” the artistic possibilities are endless.  Time to shake off the burdens of “have to’s” and “should do’s” to work comfortably in uselessness!!

I continue my latest artistic journey into the world of Gregory Maguire’s vivid imagination and illustrator Chris L. Demarest’s line drawings.  I find myself in a marsh, where frogs rule and hornets can ruin a good party.  My pallet is a Christmas tree, my medium, paper clay.

To see the fascinating world Gregory created in his book “Leaping Beauty”, stop by the Concord Museum in December 3, 2010- January 2nd, 2011 and visit the exhibit of “Family Trees” a celebration of children’s literature.  There are 36 trees decorated in the themes of children’s books.  It’s an excellent holiday activity for families, especially children who love to read!!  concordmuseum.org

here is my tree, I set it up Dec 1st!  There are some really cool trees this year, I hope you get a chance to check them out!
